Email signatures for financial advisers

An investment enquiry can travel through several forwarded messages before it reaches the right adviser. Keep the approved firm identity and profile link together, and ask your compliance team which credentials and disclosures belong in the signature.

Fictional examples. Replace sample credentials and licence numbers with your own verified details.

What to include

  • Firm-approved credentials and required regulatory disclosures
  • Regulated firm identity rather than a personal trading name alone
  • Firm-approved use of CFP® and other certification marks
  • Approved FINRA or SEC-related disclosures where applicable to the firm
  • Approved adviser profile
  • Professional name and a business email address

What to leave out

  • Misusing CFP® marks or promising returns
  • Images containing your only contact details
  • More than one primary call to action

Check applicable local rules and your organization’s policy before using credentials or disclosure text. These examples are not legal advice.

Questions for financial advisers

How should I write CFP® next to my name?
Follow the certification mark owner’s current rules. CFP Board permits CFP® on the same line directly after the certified individual’s name, and specifies approved nouns in other uses. Include only marks you are authorized to use; ask compliance to approve the final signature.
Which link belongs in a financial adviser signature?
Use a link to your approved adviser profile. Label the destination clearly and check it before pasting the signature into your mail client.
