Gmail signature not showing?
Walk through the usual causes with official Google Help steps, then rebuild a table-based signature you can paste back into Gmail.
Why a signature can seem to disappear
Gmail stores signatures in Settings and inserts them when you compose. If the wrong account is selected, reply defaults are off, plain text mode is on, images are blocked, or Gmail trims the footer, it looks like the signature is gone even when it still exists in Settings.
Check these causes first
- Wrong Google account or “Send mail as” address: Open Gmail on a computer → Settings → See all settings → General → Signature. If you send as more than one address, use the drop-down above the signature box and set a signature for the address you are sending from. Source: Google Help: Create a Gmail signature.
- Not applied to replies or forwards: Under Signature defaults, choose the signature for new emails and, separately, for replies/forwards. Otherwise new mail can show it while replies look bare.
- Compose window vs Settings: Confirm the signature still exists in Settings, then open Compose. You can insert a signature manually with Insert signature at the bottom of the compose window.
- Hidden behind three dots: In sent mail, Gmail may hide the signature under “Show trimmed content” after the two-dash separator. Scroll to the end of the message and expand trimmed content. Source: Google Help: Troubleshoot issues with Gmail signatures.
- Images blocked or Drive permissions: Recipients often block remote images until they trust the sender. Drive images need sharing set to anyone with the link (Viewer). If a Drive file is deleted, the image disappears. Prefer a stable public image URL when possible.
- HTML stripped / plain text mode: If Plain text appears above the signature editor or compose window, turn plain text mode off (Compose → More options → uncheck Plain text mode) before editing rich signatures. Otherwise formatting and layout can vanish.
- Formatting or oversized images: Broken formatting can be cleared with Remove formatting in the signature editor. Google recommends signature images about 70–100 pixels high by 300–400 wide (max about 100 × 1000).
- Work or school accounts: Admins can set organisation signatures or footers. Personal edits may be limited. See Google Workspace Help: Set up user signatures in Gmail.
